Discipline Policies

A. Academic Probation:

Students consistently working below grade level expectations will be placed on academic probation, given supplementary help, and referred to a tutor or testing agency. Continued academic probation will necessitate retention or transfer to another school.

Fifth grade students on academic probation will not be allowed to participate in graduation activities and/or graduation.

Students are on academic probation if any of the following appear on the report card:

o 2 D’s in Academic areas (Grades 3-5)
o 1 F in Academic area (Grades 3-5)
o 2 N’s in Academic areas (Kgn.-2)
o 3 N’s in Citizenship/Work Habits (Kgn.-Grade 5)

B. (Procedures) Failure to observe school standards:

Students are expected to respect authority, each other and their environment at all times. The following procedures will be used for failure to observe school standards for students in first through fifth grades.

1. A Discipline Slip, to be signed by both student and parent will be issued.

2. In addition to receiving a Discipline Slip, the student will be benched for a recess or lunchtime (with the exception of a uniform infraction).

3. Any student receiving 1 or more Discipline Slips per trimester will have to spend a recess and/or lunch period in the Detention Room under the supervision of a WDS faculty member. The student will be asked to complete a written assignment or do some type of school clean-up activity at this time.

4. One or more visits to the Detention Room per trimester may result in a lowered Citizenship Grade on the student’s Report Card.

5. Parents will be asked to come in for a conference should inappropriate behavior continue.

6. In cases of extreme or consistent misbehavior, students may be suspended or expelled.

* Students in kindergarten are also expected to observe the above guidelines. Failure to do so may result in being benched, a note home, and/or a parent conference.
