The Weekday School was established in 1964 as a service to our church families and to those in the surrounding community. The school has grown from a beginning enrollment of forty children to over three hundred.

In 1973 the Session approved a proposal to add grades K-3, one year at a time, commencing in September. By 1975, it became apparent to all concerned that a more realistic cut-off would be grade six. A proposal was approved to continue growing and by 1979, the school offered kindergarten through sixth grade.

In the mid-1990’s Los Angeles Unified School District made the decision to include sixth grade in the middle school years. Many private schools followed this pattern and with the graduating class of 1998, sixth grade was phased out at First Presbyterian.

With the continued growth of the student population and the need to reduce class size apparent, a program was put into place beginning with the 1997 – 1998 school year. A second kindergarten class was added and as that group moved through each grade, two classes were formed to accommodate the students. As of the 2002 -2003 school there were two classes in each grade, kindergarten through fifth. First Presbyterian Weekday School now has the opportunity to offer its excellent program to more students.
